Class 6-9 We Love Reading: తెలుగు కథ : సోమరి కుక్కపిల్ల
సోమరి కుక్కపిల్ల
ఒక ఇంటిలో కుక్కపిల్ల(పప్పీ), పిల్లికూన ఉండేది. ఇద్దరూ మిత్రులు. గొడవ పడేవాళ్లు కాదు. సంతోషంగా కాలం గడిపేవాళ్లు.
ఆ ఇంటి యజమాని రెండు ఒక ఇంటిలో కుక్కపిల్ల(పప్పీ), పిల్లికూన ఉండేది. ఇద్దరూ మిత్రులు. గొడవ పడేవాళ్లు కాదు. సంతోషంగా కాలం గడిపేవాళ్లు.
ఆ ఇంటి యజమాని రెండు జంతువులను సమంగా ప్రేమించేవాడు. అలా చూడటం వల్ల పప్పీ, పిల్లికూన తమకంటే అదృష్టవంతులు ఎవరూ లేరనుకునేవి.
యజమాని దగ్గరలోని పట్టణానికో, బయటికో, చేనుకో వెళ్లినపుడు పప్పీ ఇంట్లో బాగా ఆడుకునేది. అలా రోజంతా ఇంట్లోని వస్తువులతో ఆడుకోవటం, నిద్రపోవడం, గేట్‌ దగ్గరకు వెళ్లి అరవటం.. లాంటివి చేసేది.
దాని అల్లరి మామూలుగా ఉండేది కాదు. అయితే పిల్లికూన మాత్రం ఇళ్లంతా తిరిగేది. ఎక్కడ ఏ వస్తువు ఉంది? కిచెన్‌లో ఏ వస్తువులు ఉన్నాయి. ఇలా పరిసరాలన్నింటినీ గమనించేది. అయితే ఈ విషయం పప్పీకి తెలీదు. ఇది ఇంట్లో అంతా వెతకటం ఏంటో అంటూ పప్పీ నవ్వేది. అది చూసి పిల్లికూన బాధపడేది.
‘అయినా పిల్లికూన నువ్వు ఎంతో పిచ్చిదానివి. కామెడీ చేస్తావు. మనకు మన యజమాని మనల్ని బాగా చూసుకుంటున్నాడు. ఇక నీకేమి కావాలి?’ అంటూ వెటకారం చేసేది.
ఆ తర్వాత కొన్నాళ్లకు కుక్క విశ్వాసంకల జంతువు అని ప్రతి ఒక్కరికీ యజమాని చెప్పాడు. చెప్పటంతో పాటు పప్పీని బాగా చూసుకోవటం ప్రారంభించాడు. నేనేమి తప్పు చేశానని పిల్లికూన బాధపడేది. దీంతో అనుకోకుండా పప్పీ మీద కోపం పెంచుకుంది పిల్లికూన.
ఒకరోజు తన యజమాని వేరే గ్రామానికి వెళ్లాడు. అతనికో ప్రమాదం జరిగింది. ఆసుపత్రికి వెళ్లాడు. ఆ సాయంత్రానికి ఇంటికి రాలేకపోయాడు. అయితే తన పెంపుడు జంతువులు ఎలా ఉన్నాయో అని బాధపడేవాడు.
కొన్నాళ్లకు యజమాని ఇంటికి వచ్చాడు. ఆ లోపు పప్పీ కష్టాల్లో పడింది. పైగా పిల్లికూనకు ఎక్కడ ఏ ఆహారం ఉందో తెలుసు కనుక మెల్లగా తినేది. పప్పీ అలా తినటానికి కుదరలేదు. తనకి ఎక్కడ ఏ పదార్థం ఉందో తెలీదు. యజమాని ఇంటికి వస్తూనే పిల్లికూన ఆరోగ్యంగా ఉంది.
పప్పీ మాత్రం తిండిలేక బక్కచిక్కిపోయింది. ఎముకలు బయటపడినట్లుంది. అది చూసి ‘అయ్యో.. నీకు సోమరి ఎక్కువ. ఏదీ గమనించవు. తోక కూడా ఊపలేకున్నావు. ఇంత దారుణమైన స్థితికి నువ్వే వెళ్లావు’ అంటూ దానికి ఆహారం చేసి పెట్టాడు.
ఆ రోజు నుంచి పిల్లికూనను పప్పీ వెటకారం చేయలేదు. ఆహారం ఎలాగైనా, ఏ వేళలో అయినా సంపాదించుకునే జ్ఞానం కావాలి దేవుడా అని మనసులో అనుకుంది.

“The Cock and the Fox” is also called as “The Rooster and the Fox” included into the Perry index of the great collection called as the Aesop Fables and it is the story of how a cunning and guile fox tries to trick a cock but the wise old cock did not fall for his tricks.
The Story
There was once a wise Cock, “Mr. Cockadoodledoo” who lived in a big farm. Every morning at dawn, he used to wake up and crow thrice loudly.
“COCKAAAAADOOOOOODLLLLLEEEEEDOOOOOOOOO”
A second time! “COCKAAAAADOOOOOODLLLLLEEEEEDOOOOOOOOO”
And a third…..“COCKAAAAADOOOOOODLLLLLEEEEEDOOOOOOOOO”
All the animals used to wake up only at his sound and start their day.
At the end of the day, or dusk, Mr. Cockadoodledoo used to fly up a tree. He used to crow thrice loudly.
“COCKAAAAADOOOOOODLLLLLEEEEEDOOOOOOOOO”
A second time! “COCKAAAAADOOOOOODLLLLLEEEEEDOOOOOOOOO”
And a third…..“COCKAAAAADOOOOOODLLLLLEEEEEDOOOOOOOOO”
He would put his bright red head under his wings and then go to sleep.
Master fox enters the scene
One day he was just about to go to sleep when he saw a red flash. It was Master Fox. He did not like Master Fox since he was always trying to eat him. The Cock kept looking carefully at the Fox.
“Good Evening, Mr. Cock. I hope you are fine. Have you not heard the wonderful news?”
The Cock replied, “I am very well, thank you. What wonderful news Mr. Fox?”
The Fox said with a bright smile, “There was a great meeting between your family and my family, all the foxes and the dogs and the cocks and the hens. All our families have agreed to forget the fights in the past. We will now live in peace and friendship from now on forever.”
The Cock replied, “Really? I am so happy to hear that.”
The Fox jumped up in joy. “Indeed. I do not need to hunt or chase you again. How wonderful it is. Come down so that we may hug and dance.”
Mr. Cockadoodledoo was a very smart bird. He did trust Mr. Fox. The Cock said, “That is indeed such wonderful news.”
He stretched his neck up and saw that there was no one nearby. He shouted “Yoohoo. Mr. Dog. I am so happy that you are coming over to dance and play too.”
The Fox heard this and got afraid. He started to run to the forest.
The cock asked, “Where are you going Mr. Fox? All the dogs are coming too. We can all hug and dance.”
The Fox shouted back, “Never mind. They might not have heard the news and they might chase me. Also I have a very important errand which I must attend to. Good day, Mr Cock”
Saying so, the fox ran away. The cock smiled and then put his head under his wings and went to sleep.
